Darryl E. Scott received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology from the University of Houston and obtained his law degree from the South Texas College of Law Houston.  He has over 17 years of professional IT strategy and transformation experience and is registered to file Patent Applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  He has worked with inventors and applicants around the world to facilitate the preparation, filing, prosecuting and appeal of patent applications in the United States and advises clients on the protection of their property rights.  He has prepared, filed and prosecuted patent applications nationally and internationally and has extensive knowledge of patent prosecution laws in several countries, including but not limited to Europe, China, Australia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, France, Canada and Mexico.  Mr. Scott’s trademark experience includes trademark viability studies, analysis, prosecution of potential marks, and trademark digital marketing analysis.  He has also handled software development agreements, technology licensing and commercial transactions, and has developed relationships with foreign associates to assist in prosecuting trademark applications internationally.

 

Mr. Scott’s patent prosecution experience also includes drafting and preparing patent applications for filing at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), including extensive knowledge of the drafting requirements for several nation states.  Mr. Scott has developed relationships with foreign associates to assist in prosecuting foreign filed patent applications. In addition to drafting and prosecuting patent applications, he has translated patents and handled all the foreign prosecuting needs, such as notarization of documents up to the consulate, power of attorney submission, and assignment documents.  He has handled complex patent applications that include but are not limited to oil and gas-related patent applications, software-related patent applications, software-related patent applications, and process-related patent applications.  As part of our patent prosecution experience, we are fully prepared to preform and provide patentability and trademark viability opinions, and can provide client training, presentations, and reporting opinions on due diligence issues.  In addition to his patent practice, Mr. Scott’s trial experience includes personal injury, commercial and labor and employment law, with cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, wrongful state and federal court, including United States Supreme Court.  Mr. Scott also serves as an associate Judge with the Houston Municipal Court and is a certified mentor.
